Our club’s sponsor - Lion Richard “Dick” Kapp and his wife Jeanette |
In 1971, Dick Kapp, a member of the Germantown Lions Club, decided it was time that Port Washington had its own Lions Club. With his persuasion and with the Germantown club as a sponsor, the Port Washington Lions Club was chartered on January 20, 1971. The first meetings were conducted at the former Mayer Hotel. In 1974, the Club settled in at the former D&G Club and remained there until 1993. Fundraisers in the early years included door-to-door light bulb sales, pancake breakfasts at the American Legion Post, fish boils and raffles. Currently Port Washington Fish Day, Lionsfest/Fish Derby and a raffle calendar provide an outlet to raise funds. |
